Hubble — built, integrated, and tested in the 1970s and 1980s at Lockheed Martin's Sunnyvale, Calif., plant — was designed to be updated throughout its long life. The photograph shows Hubble being lifted into the upright position at Kennedy Space Center before its launch aboard the space shuttle Discovery April 24, 1990.
